Two Versions of the beginning

The Kegley family immigrated from what is now Germany about 1750 - 60 and settled in what was at that time Lancaster County Pennsylvania, near present day Annville, now Lebanon County. John George Kegley, whose original German name was Jorg Goeckel, and his wife, Catherine, eventually settled in the area of present day Wythe County Virginia.

The first Johan (John ) George Kegley was born  about 1740 in Hessein on the Rhine, Germany and died after 1830 in Wythe Co. VA. He married before 1763. His wife was Catherine Kegley, who was born about 1742 in  Hessein on the Rhine, Germany and who died after 1820 in Wythe Co, VA.

The first Kegleys born in America

i. Anna Catharina Kegley was born on March 10, 1763, in Lebanon PA. She  died after 1820 in Wythe Co., VA. She married Francis Thompson Sr. in  Montgomery Co. VA.

ii. Johann (Heist) Jacob Kegley, who was born on Oct 8, 1764.

iii. Johann George Kegley II, who was born on March 31, 1766, in Lebanon, PA. He died in 1844 in Wythe Co. VA. He married on Nov 10, 1791 in Montgomery Co. VA to Catherine Hudsell, who was born about 1775 in VA, and who died after 1850 in Wythe Co. VA.

iv. Anna Marie Kegley, born April 7, 1768, in  Lebanon PA, who died  in 1827 at Tom's Creek in Blacksburg, VA. She married Christopher Ribble  on Feb 7, 1794, in Wythe Co. VA. Her husband was born on  Nov 16, 1742, in Germany. He died around 1836 in Montgomery Co. VA.

v. Rebecca Ann Kegley, born  March 2, 1770, in Wythe Co, VA. She died on May 12, 1818, in  Muncie, in  Delaware Co. IN. She married Hugh Conrad Keesling in  1790 in Wythe Co, Va. He was born in  1762 in Berks Co. PA.

Kegleys in Wisconsin

The Kegley generations in Wisconsin appear to descend from Christian Kegley, who married Catherine Leedy or Geddy in Pennsylvania in 1795. 

His son was George Kegley, born on February 29, 1796. He married Catherine Slous in either Pennsylvania or Wythe County, Virginia.

 Next was Elias Kegley, born on 3 September 1824 in Wythe County, Virginia. He married Rebecca Bundy, who was born in Indiana.

Next were a number of their children, including a son, Albert Kegley, who was born at DeBello in Vernon County, Wisconsin on 18 May 1858. He married Armilda Shreve. He died 10 October 1936.  Armilda died earlier on 15 August 1917.

 

Another child, Ida Kegley, married John Eden Shreve. She was born on July 8, 1867, and died on March 1, 1927. He died on June 28, 1934.

Albert and Armilda's children were:

  • Amos Kegley, born 23 November 1886, who died February 18, 1964, in Beloit, Wis. He married Ann Johnson in 1907.

  • Laura Kegley, born 19 April 1889, who died 17 February 1985. She married Lewis Olson in 1915, who died 24 October 1960.

  • Vern C. Kegley, who lived from 24 September 1893 to 31 July 1931. He married Helen Smith. 

  • Iva Josephine Kegley, born 12 July 1895, and died 3 May 1979.  She married William Lodge, who died 7 November 1969. 

  • Edith Kegley, born 9 March 1898, died 6 December 2001. She married Ralph Short.

  • Ray Kegley, born 15 March 1903, died 18 October 1966. He was married to Winifred Burton, who died 22 July 1976.
